A major figure in Conceptual Art, Lawrence Weiner developed in the 1970s his “wall drawings”, statements in neutral language describing potential sculptures. This one was produced for an exhibition of artists invited by Ian Wilson and organised by Michel Claura in 1979. Despite the artist’s declared intent, authorising the physical realisation of the work by the owner, examples of such realisation have been few. Here the long and precise text describes the work with a degree of detail. In other cases, it might consist of no more than a single adjective or adverb, leaving the nature of the work proposed very open.
