"Monochromy is the only physical way of painting that enables access to a spiritual absolute." (Klein)
For Yves Klein, blue was charged with sensitivity and favoured the passage from the material to the immaterial. IKB 3 uses ultramarine blue (International Klein Blue) patented by Klein in 1960. Applied by roller in order to avoid all unevenness, this synthetic resin enabled him to bond blue pigments without dulling them and to obtain a velvety effect that absorbed the eye. Slightly proud of the wall, with its rounded corners, this monochrome produced the effect of an object in a state of levitation. "Blue has no dimension, it is beyond dimensions", Klein declared.
