Moviment, chapter 4

 Wed 24 – Sun 28 May 2023

Listening to unique speeches, understanding how they make up a shared history: this week, Moviment takes position between individual voices and collective memory.

Highlights

Charlotte Pouch
Would you like to share a documentary experience with me?

 Documentary cinema  Workshop

Documentary filmmaker and journalist Charlotte Pouch invites you to ask yourself what makes history, what makes documentary cinema? She will collect what you say. In your head, please follow the protocol she suggests to tell her about your dream documentary film. Think about how it starts, how it finishes and the issue in question.
Once you’ve confided your story, it will be revealed to everyone by being broadcast the following day on the big Moviment screen.

Access to the workshops is free and continuous

Wednesday, 24 to Sunday, 28 May 2023, from 11 am

  • What is your first name? And your surname?
    •    What age are you?
    •    What event or part of your life do you wish to tell me about?
    •    Where exactly did your story take place? When? On what day? At what time of the day?
    •    Why this story?
    •    Don’t forget the details, the smells, colours, sounds, materials, images, objects that make it.
    •    Tap into your life, the personal is fertile ground, movie material.
    •    Tell your story in the first person.
    •    It can be tragic, funny, dramatic, poetic, cruel, even banal.

The story you are going to relate can only be told by you, it has only been lived by you!

Dani Gal

Historical Records, Part 3 (2005-2018)

 Visual arts  Installation, performance

Dani Gal’s multimedia project Historical Records, Part 3 (2005-2018) questions our relationship to history and the truth, the way in which elements from the past can be manipulated, reactivated or reinvented.

Over the course of almost 15 years, Dani Gal has patiently purchased and amassed a collection of more than 700 vinyl recordings of historic speeches linked to major political and social events of the 20th century. In doing so, the artist was less concerned about conserving and archiving the historic speeches and more interested in listening to the unique "noise" specific to the enunciative context of each sound recording, and in the substance of the recording medium and its packaging: the graphic compositions of the sleeves, amplified voices, speech recorded from a later radio broadcast of the "original", during which other layers of voices and music are added, thus adding a new layer of history.
Although the vinyl covers constitute a new kind of history painting put together only with ready-made elements, the collection of recordings is in the tradition of the concrete music of Pauline Oliveros and Pierre Schaeffer.
