On Sunday 15 September 2024, more than 30 institutions worldwide, from Los Angeles to Lviv in Ukraine, via Teheran, Vilnius and the Centre Pompidou, the initiator of this exceptional event, will simultaneously screen Jonas Mekas' latest film, Requiem, directed in 2019 by Lithuanian filmmaker and poet Jonas Mekas (1922-2019) for the Verdi opera staged at the Shed in New York.
Presented in installation format at the recent Venice Biennale, and on view at the Centre Pompidou from September 12 to 22 as part of the Extra! festival, Requiem will be the subject of a world premiere screening.
Encounters, readings, exhibitions, publications and film screenings will accompany Requiem at various venues, paying tribute to this major figure in underground and experimental cinema.
