In his 1989 essay Toward a Minor Cinema, film historian Tom Gunning examines the emergence in the early Eighties of a new generation of American experimental film directors who, in his view, were capable of giving a second wind to American avant-garde cinema. Qualified as minor (a term borrowed by the author from Deleuze and Guattari), the films of Phil Solomon, Janie Geiser and Lewis Klahr return to narrative forms, and abandon all forms of hero worship as regards the figure of the film director.
Session introduced by SuranjanGanguly (lecturer at the University of Colorado). Next events: 28-05/4, 11-06
