Vu d'ici
1965 - 1967
This pictorial enigma blends undefined, interlacing forms with fantastic bestiary.
The spontaneous gestures and vivid colours of Vu d'ici show the heritage of CoBrA in the style of the Belgian painter, who arrived in Paris in 1951 following the dissolution of the movement. After being introduced to oriental calligraphy by the artist Walasse Ting, Alechinsky used new pictorial effects. The intensity of his brushstrokes and the liquid play of the material give rhythm to his large-format paintings, which he exhibited at the Galerie de France from 1958. His works invite the viewer to discover the supernatural and mysterious creatures that populate his world, which is also influenced by the Flemish Primitives.
