Developed in 1984 by the German engineer Dieter Seifert (born in 1941), the parabolic cooker has a trapezoid shape made of anodised aluminium sheets. These form a mirror, which concentrates all the rays of the sun at its zenith on the receptacle placed in the centre. This method cooks food rapidly, although requiring regular adjustments (every twenty or thirty minutes) to follow the movements of the sun. Three litres of water can boil in thirty minutes. Founded in 1993, the EG-Solar association produces cookers in collaboration with a social rehabilitation organisation, and also stages training courses on how to make parabolic cookers in the place where they are to be used.
