''l'm going to realise my dream with Bruyère: on a neutral site of grey rock, composing a painting on the scale of the landscape." (Léger)
ln 1952, Fernand Léger introduced André Bruyère to Francisco de Assis Chateaubriand, the Brazilian press magnate, who commissioned them for a housing estate to be built near Biot. Designed by Bruyère and coloured by Léger, Polychrome Village had to comprise collective housing for two hundred Brazilian students, ten large villas, a museum dedicated to Léger's work, and an ensemble of facilities. It was designed as a pedestrian village made up of covered squares and passages. The project was presented at the Biot exhibition in 1954, but was never built.
