Quatre sans titre
1963
The almost-conceptual formal simplicity of signs - or "lettrie" [lettery] - is here reduced to its simplest expression, presenting itself as a variation on the forms that are the "mothers" of all signs: the ring, the dot and the line.
Roland Sabatier joined the Lettrist group in 1963 at the age of 20. Thereafter, very close to Isidore Isou until his death in 2007, his work in the visual arts embodies several of Lettrism's revolutionary declarations. Among them, the supertemporal and infinitesimal art invented by Isou in 1956 sets out to explore, independently of all concrete manifestations, the mental representations of potential spectators.
