Milanese artist, architect, designer, and magazine editor, Ugo La Pietra explored in the wake of Lucio Fontana’s Spatialism a “synaesthetic” approach for which the work existed only in the spatial and cognitive field. He then developed “micro-environments” for viewer activation which in the early 1960s he called Unbalancing Systems. In his design for Maison pour un sculpteur [House for a Sculptor] (1960-62) the monolithic organic forms allude to the anti-functionalism of Hans Hollein. By means of this archaism Ugo La Pietra establishes, in the plans and models for this project, an organic link between the architectural form and its environment.
