The artist's body becomes a camera.
This panoramic installation consists of a single silver print on which twenty-four photographs are exposed to light and in which we see the artist's hand touching an everyday object. ln order to make these images, Jeff Guess placed pieces of film at the back of his slightly open mouth, using it as a dark room. The photography in the round constituted a real performance because he had to remain in the darkness of the laboratory for thirty-six hours in order to produce this continuous image. The title of the work, From Hand to Mouth, is a reference to both the expression that evokes poverty and to the idea of measure and distance.
