Every Icon
1997
With this generative work, Simon Jr. presents a critical commentary on the promises of technology.
Created in 1997, the work consists of a grid, each square of which can be coloured black or white. The icon begins with a grid of white squares and progresses by combinations of black and white squares until ail the squares are black. Although 1.36 years is sufficient to display ail the variations of the first line, 5.85 billion years are required to complete the second line. ln 2021, the artist created a new version of Every Icon in the form of 512 NFTs whose display is differentiated by an initial motif that pays homage to Pixel Art.
