Clôture
1961
Composed of found materials, Clôture offers itself to the spectator like a relie, inviting introspection.
This sculpture was created in Paris at a time when Mark Brusse spent time with the Nouveaux Réalistes group, and belongs to a series made up of wooden elements picked up in the street. The artist assembled them into large, ambiguous constructions, which evoke portals, instruments or machines. Clôtures is a seminal series and heralds the work to come: the shift towardsminimalism, performance events with Fluxus, the pedestal or suspended assemblages of the 1970s, the more recent sculptures in raw wood brushed with white, or the collages.
