Rae draws inspiration from eclectic sources to create her exuberant paintings, which are both constructed and at the same time improvised.
Each series by Fiona Rae contributes to the renewal of the formal repertoire of abstraction. With Double Happiness, she stages a myriad of colourful forms in a joyful and ironically lyrical composition. Flowers, stars, typographical signs or more abstract motifs intermingle in a kitsch universe reminiscent of Japanese kawaii. Rae alternates wide brushstrokes with precisely contoured drawings, creating a sustained rhythm in her painting, further accentuated by the dark background.
