Small, Slow but Steady

The event is over
A young professional boxer, Keiko, was born with impaired hearing. Boxing is a true challenge for her, but her club is like a second home to her. After winning two tough fights, an insidious fear grows within her, which does nothing to preserve the fragile health of her mentor and the risk of the club closing.
Inspired by Keiko Ogasawara’s autobiography, Makenaide! (2011).
“I wanted to tell this story as a documentary, but also as a fairy story or fable. With the quality of 16-mm film, I reconciled these two vastly different worlds,” Shô Miyake, lepolyester.com, 15 February 2022
“[…] This gracefully woven portrait of a taciturn young woman avoids being maudlin and coming across as an indictment of discrimination. It’s just the story of a girl who boxes. To the point that you wonder how Shô Miyake, who knows the cost of every shoot to depict compact emotion, manages to accrue so much bittersweet poetry with his actress Yukino Kishii.” Sandra Onana, Libération, 7 February 2022
