A film about passionate love and the subversive forces capable of destroying bourgeois morals, L’Âge d’or (1930) angered reactionary groups when it was shown at Studio 28 in Paris, and was then roundly banned by the authorities. Written with the help of the painter Salvador Dalí a year after the success of Un chien andalou, L’Âged’or is still the film that most successfully expresses Surrealist thinking.
Shown as a preview in a new version restored by the Centre Pompidou.
