Laurent Jullier "Let's not think about it any more"
23 Feb 2014
The event is over
When we achieve our "place in the sun ", can we forget where we come from, and the disturbing things we had to do to get there? George, the hero of the film, endeavours to start from the beginning every time he meets somebody significant, but the past always comes back… Feelings cannot be so easily forgotten: and as it happens, the cinema is the medium par excellence for sentiments. Laurent Jullier is a musician (rock) and university lecturer. He has written numerous books on film, notably our ways of reacting to what goes on the screen, and on the reasons we like the films in our personal pantheons.
Cycle devised by Jacques Aumont. Talk by Laurent Jullier, followed by a showing of A Place in the Sun (1951, 122’) by George Stevens.
