Carla Lonzi : reinventing criticism, refuting authority
09 Mar 2013
The event is over
In 1969, art critic Carla Lonzi published Autoritratto (Self-portrait), an experimental book composed entirely of conversations she had recorded with artists. Lonzi gave them a voice in order to reinvent art criticism from a non-linear account and a fragmented subjectivity. The book’s publication also marked a break with the past: the following year Lonzi abandoned art criticism and co-founded Rivolta Femminile, one of the most active Italian feminist collectives, of which she very quickly became a central figure.
