Alice Diop, La Mort de Danton (The Death of Danton, France, 2011, 64 min)
Followed by:
Steve Tientcheu, La Chimère (The Chimera, France, 2021, 25 min)
La Chimère (The Chimera) was shot in the Cité des 3000 (City of 3000) district. It is the first short film by Steve Tientcheu – who was discovered in Alice Diop's La Mort de Danton (The Death of Danton), in 2011, and who featured as the mayor in Ladj Ly's Les Misérables in 2019. It is the result of work in the acting school that he created in Aulnay-sous-Bois.
"It's very beautiful to see the progression of Steve Tientcheu's career as an actor, the maturity, the power and precision of his acting today. We could present La Mort de Danton together every ten years. It would be a way of reviewing the situation, seeing where we both stand, and doing an update on the development of the questions raised by the film: particularly to assess where French film stands with regard to all that? With regard to us? I'm happy to discover his first fiction film. I was very moved when watching his film to see the places where we lived, the Cité des 3000. We continue to leave our mark there." AD
Session followed by an encounter with Alice Diop, Steve Tientcheu and Abraham Cohen, director and teacher
