The event is over
An artist and her ageing mother are confronted with a resurgence of buried secrets when they go to an old family home transformed into a hotel, haunted by a mysterious past.
"As in the Souvenir diptych, Hogg inserts questions into the structure of the film concerning how our intimate relationship are embodied when art takes over. This film recounts a mother, her daughter, memory and space. Hogg uses the tantalising form of the ghost story to again explore the problems affecting her agitated artist's soul. She enjoys instilling a clear note of light humour, with a nod to one of cinema's greatest mysteries by naming a room after a dying man's last word, "Rosebud".
