Homage to David Rimmer
15 Feb 2023
The event is over
David Rimmer was born in Vancouver in 1942 and died on 26 January 2023. As a filmmaker and photographer, his entire filmography explores the analytical and rhythmic potentialities provided by repetition.
Often made from found footage using a contact printer or optical printer, with superimposed and dissolve effects, his 1970s films represent one of the most unique contributions to experimental film from the period. His use of loops, stretching or, conversely, accelerating time, makes David Rimmer an essential figure in the contemporary development of artist films.
Since 1991, the Centre Pompidou has preserved three works by David Rimmer in its collection, (Watching for the Queen, 1973, Bricolage, 1985, and Divine Mannequin, 1989) and dedicated a retrospective to him in 1992.
